Being a teenager can be hard
Being a teenager can come with a unique set of challenges. During this pivotal time, many teens face pressures such as heavy academic workloads, forming their sense of identity, and keeping up with friendships.
Some teenagers may also experience bullying or peer pressure, and others may question their gender or sexual identity as they navigate relationships for the first time. Teen counselling often seeks to help these individuals figure out their place in the world.
While teens may seem like young adults, they often go through many significant physical, emotional, and physiological changes, which can feel challenging to cope with. Their brains are in the process of becoming fully formed, so they’re not yet able to make decisions or handle situations as well as adults can.
Many teens’ bodies are growing in new ways, and hormones may cause unfamiliar changes. With all these internal and external changes, added stressors may cause teens to feel “out of control.” And sometimes this can result in suicide ideation.
When you decide that your teen should attend counselling, you allow them to work through current stressors and past events that could be troubling them.
